“Mentalizing is an imaginative process”.

—Peter Fonagy, PhD

,

Mentalizing is the ability to understand your mind and the minds of others. It’s about recognizing feelings, thoughts, and intentions—both your own and those of those around you. Mentalization-based Therapy aims to help individuals become more aware of mental states, increasing reflective and playful curiosity about our minds and the minds of others.

Leading the Charge in Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT)

Originally trained in MBT in 2009, I've had the privilege of studying for many years under MBT creators Anthony Bateman and Peter Fonagy, as well as MBT-Family expert Eia Asen, to whom I am forever grateful. I am also indebted to my long-time mentor, Dr. Robin Kissell, who provided me with the opportunity to train in MBT all those years ago at UCLA. Her teaching and years of MBT consultation have taught me how to be a better therapist. Through their mentorship, I have witnessed profound transformation in others and within myself. All of them continue to inspire me and provide me with their expert consultation to this day.

I am a licensed psychotherapist, certified by the Anna Freud Centre London in Mentalization-based Therapy (MBT) as both a clinician and clinical supervisor. I serve on faculty of the Mentalizing Initiative, a non-profit organization dedicated to training mental health professionals in mentalizing and resiliency-based therapies. I earned my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Southern California and am currently working towards a PhD in Depth Psychology.

MBT Supervision

I am certified by the MBT Global Network, a division of the Anna Freud Centre in London. I offer individual and small group supervision to licensed mental health clinicians.

MBT Seminars

At the heart of Mindwell’s educational offerings is Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT), an innovative evidence-based approach that has shown remarkable success in treating a range of mental health disorders. MBT focuses on improving patients' ability to mentalize, helping them to understand the thoughts and feelings that underlie their behaviors. This leads to greater emotional regulation, enhanced empathy, and improved relationships.

With years of experience in both clinical and educational settings, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a personal passion for mental health. Under my guidance, you will learn about Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT), case studies, and interactive content designed to deepen your understanding and skills in mental health treatment.

All seminars are taught by Natalie Brooks, MA, LMFT
